The Rushmore Judge Round Table THE RUSHMORE JUDGE ROUND TABLE was conceived as a means for CEOs from an assortment of organizations to discuss their personal experiences with using the power of their position to implement their vision. Power as a leadership tool is a concept that unfortunately does not receive the airtime it should. Executives usually avoid the discussion because "power" carries a negative, malignant, almost scandalous reputation. There is a zone of zero-tolerance around the issue. However, all leaders use power to achieve their goals. Whether they do this consciously or unconsciously can make the difference between the truly great and the "also rans". In our experience with executive coaching of hundreds of senior executives, the use of executive power is a blind spot common to almost every leader. This is the tool a leader needs to gain a mastery of if one is to solidify one's leadership. The Round Table is an unstructured, but facilitated meeting of senior leaders. Discussion is open and unburdened, giving rise to new insights and solutions. We hope to share practical wisdom and bring to light a capability to exercise power in a substantial, meaningful way in the executive suite. THE RUSHMORE JUDGE ROUND TABLE is a series of dynamic, intimate and introspective conversations, where participants are free to ask questions and help each other analyze their experiences, and provide the venue to tackle the ramifications of the use of executive power. We are in the process of preparing a manuscript on the use of executive power in the corporate world and have done substantial academic and online research on the topic. The Round Table will provide the opportunity to examine the phenomenon from a variety of real-world perspectives. |
